HRAM June Program - Are We Really Communication? Selling Total Rewards Package Successfully

Speaker: John Rubino, Rubino Consulting Services

"Are We Really Communication? "Selling" The Total Rewards Package. Successfully!"

Everyone agrees that communicating effectively with employees is a primary criteria for successfully designing and implementing a total rewards package --- and for achieving organizational goals. However, global research consistently tells us that most organizations do a poor job of communicating. Why?

There are a multitude of reasons ranging from corporate culture to just not knowing how to do it right! John Rubino will explore these reasons and, most importantly, present his proven methodology for managing the communication process successfully. John will discuss specific communication tools and techniques that will help you really get your message across, and to "sell" the rewards package to your employees. This systematic, managed approach to communicating total rewards will give you a specific game plan and template for achieving the three primary objectives of successful employee communication:

1) ensure understanding
2) get buy-in/change perceptions and
3) motivate the right behaviors.

TECHNICAL SESSION: "What It Takes To Be An Effective Leader In The Human Resources Profession"

HR has finally obtained the importance that it deserves. This is because the 'people' implications of business operations have become a primary strategic consideration for success, especially in the critical search for scarce talent and the related employee retention, motivation and engagement issues. In his dynamic and highly interactive workshop, John Rubino will identify and pragmatically detail how to acquire the types and quality of knowledge, skills, competencies, behavior and 'reputation' (and related tips and techniques) that are absolutely essential for today's HR leader to possess.

In addition, you will have an opportunity to participate in the demonstration of successful HR leadership in action, through the use of real-world case study examples and practical hands-on exercises.

This program has been pre-approved for a total of 1 hour of General credit and 3 hours of Strategic Business credit to the HR Certification Institute for review.

2013 Ponca Chief Commemoration

5:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. Opening Reception at General Crook House Museum.

The evening will begin with a reception at the General Crook House offering Native American food, international dance troupe "Many Moccasins," and Dreams of Eagles tipis representing four Nebraska tribes.

The General Crook House, also known as Quarters One of Fort Omaha, was built in 1878-79 as the residence of the Commander of the Department of the Platte, and named for its first occupant, General George Crook. The Douglas County Historical Society began restoration of the home in 1976. The Crook House is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Fort Omaha is best known for its role in the landmark trial in Omaha in 1879 of Ponca Chief Standing Bear. In 1877, the Ponca Indians were forced by the U.S. Government to give up their homeland and move south, leaving behind most possessions and journeying on foot the 500 miles to Indian Territory in Oklahoma. Chief Standing Bear wished to honor the request of his dying son to be buried in his homeland by the Niobrara River. As Chief Standing Bear and a burial party of 30 Indians started North, the Secretary of the Interior ordered General Crook to arrest them for leaving the reservation. General Crook followed orders to arrest Chief Standing Bear and place him under guard at Fort Omaha. However, General Crook's sentiments were with Chief Standing Bear. During the trial, General Crook, in his full military regalia, spoke on behalf of Chief Standing Bear.

7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Reading of In My Father's Eyes, by playwright and attorney Mary Kathryn Nagle at the Swanson Conference Center, Metropolitan Community College's Fort Omaha Campus. Before the reading, attendees will enjoy live music by local musician Michael Murphy and a series of paintings entitled, "Ponca Chief Portraits" by artist Janice Rockwell

8:30 p.m. - Discussion Panel with Audience Participation

Q and A Immediately following the play, Mary Kathryn, an attorney with a New York law firm, will take part in a panel discussion on Native American issues. Joining her will be Dwight Howe, descendant of Iron Eye (Bright Eyes' father); Rodney Morris, Chairman of the Omaha Tribe; and Rebecca White, Chairwoman of the Ponca Tribe.
