America's Healthcare Challenge Election Special Podcast

The special election edition of America's Healthcare Challenge was designed to provide undecided voters with the appropriate information they need to know about the Affordable Care Act and its impact on the economy, healthcare providers and state governments. It is also one of the only laws in America aside from Medicare and Medicaid that will impact all of us.

Several scenarios were developed to show how small businesses will be impacted by added compliance. Large employers will have serious questions as rising healthcare costs squeeze their bottom lines. Healthcare providers face reimbursement challenges and added compliance requirements which may require upfront capital investment. State governments are required to design and run health insurance exchanges which are highly complex and quite expensive. http://healthreformexplained.com/

When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Do Maintenance

$

Maintaining a high-quality physical environment is central to employee motivation and performance. Much has been written about customer moments of truth or boss-employee interactions that set the tone, but relatively little has been said about employees' physical environment, which is more permanent, harder to alter, and in people's faces constantly. Failing to keep it in tip-top shape is a powerful visual signal to customers, but also to employees. The physical environment surrounds them from the moment they arrive at work to the moment they leave. Everything about it signifies how much the organization cares. One large company that was trying to cut costs let trash accumulate and supplies run out in the rest rooms while peeling paint dotted the walls, thereby reminding people several times a day that their needs came last. To financially-oriented top management, such cuts are prudent. To customers and workers, they are daily insults.

When the going gets tough, the tough should do maintenance.

Maintenance is never as exciting as new investment. Companies prefer to make acquisitions rather than refurbish existing business units, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy when the neglected businesses start to under-perform.

Neglecting the physical environment and failing to invest in upkeep is one sign of a downward spiral, the start of a losing streak. Let a little bit slip, and you're on a slippery slope.Economic times are tough around the world. The winners will be the ones that don't use tough times as an excuse to neglect maintenance. By keeping everything well-repaired and upgraded, they will be ready to soar when the economy takes off.

For more information on maintaining a high-quality, physical environment please contact Mikaela at Midwest Maintenance at 402-733-1114 ext. 120. (excerpt taken from Harvard Business Review & written by Rosabeth Moth Kanter)

How Can Commercial Cleaning Help Your Business?

$

Every business has to maintain a clean work environment. Whether you run a customer service business with high customer traffic or an office building full of employees, you must maintain certain cleanliness standards. Doing this is often burdensome in a number of ways, but it does not need to be that way. A quality commercial cleaning service can ease the burden of the business owner in several ways.

Cost Efficiency

Commercial cleaning services are excellent money savers for a small business. In the long run, it is often far cheaper to hire a service to clean your business than it is to hire a full time janitor to do the same job. This is because a janitor will require a full time salary with benefits, sick days, and vacation. Additionally, you will be responsible for buying cleaning supplies and finding space to store them. On the other hand, a service will use their own supplies will clean your entire building in a matter of hours. Thus, you'll be paying less to have the same job done.

Time Saving

In addition to saving you money, a commercial cleaning company will save you time. Instead of making cleaning tasks part of your employees' job descriptions and having them spend valuable time on these tedious jobs, you will be able to have them devote all of their time to the tasks that make your business what it is. Additionally, a professional cleaner will require no oversight at all and will free up all of your time to devote to other matters.

Increased Productivity

Finally, a commercial cleaning operation will help to increase your business's productivity. Any time that someone has a clean and comfortable environment to work in it is more likely that they will be happy with what they are doing. It is common knowledge that a happy employee is a more productive employee. So, a good professional cleaner will go a long way in making you and your employees enjoy your work environment, and this will, in turn, make everyone more likely to work harder and happier.

Thus, there are a variety of benefits that come from hiring a commercial cleaning company for your small business. These services can quickly save you money and time. Moreover, they can give you and your employees a more pleasant and enjoyable work experience, and you will quickly see the benefits of all of these things as the burden of finding a way to keep your business clean is lifted from your shoulders.
