PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for "chit chat", PechaKucha rests on a simple presentation format: 1 idea, 20 images, 20 seconds/image.

This rapid, concise presentation style makes for an evening filled with imagery and energy. The spread of this worldwide phenomenon, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, has now come to Omaha. PechaKucha Night Omaha, Volume 17: "Pilgrimage" will explore, through a series of fast-paced, highly-visual presentations, personal journeys undertaken while searching for meaning in a modern world.

This program is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is not required. Presented by Project Interfaith and design alliance OMAha (daOMA)

A Local, Fresh Approach to the Dreaded "F" Word (Fundraising) is Now Available

Together a Greater Good brings businesses and organizations with fundraising needs TOGETHER to make great things happen. TAGG provides these organizations the opportunity to reach their goals simply by telling their supporter to shop online for things they actually want or need - products and services from local businesses. At checkout, the shopper chooses which participating organization will receive 20-25% of each sale.

TAGG works with any 501c3 organization including traditional nonprofits, schools, youth sports and other recreational teams, day cares, churches and animal rescue groups. TAGG eliminates the need for finding volunteers, coordinating and distributing orders, and managing money. TAGG is also free to these organizations, and provides marketing tools and support to integrate into their existing communications. TAGG's website provides access to view dollars raised, and sales can be tracked at the organization, team or even participant level.

"We are helping organizations target the majority of their supporter base that is a one time or very small contributor, as the days of larger individual donors are going away. Now they can encourage their supporters to shop online throughout the year and find something that peaks their interest. So a supporter that does a walk every year and contributes $20 could end up donating much more over the course of the year," said Leslie Fischer, co-founder.

Businesses promote vouchers for their products and services on TAGG's website, which does not cost them anything until they are actually sold, and the donation of the shopper's choice is made. Businesses utilize TAGG not only to increase their brand awareness and to be a good neighbor, but also to simplify their charitable giving so they don't feel the need to fulfill every request that comes through their door, or have to pick and choose. TAGG offers them many flexible options to ensure that it makes financial sense too.

"We are focusing on the smaller local businesses who we, as a community, are fortunate to receive so much support from. Our concept allows them to reach organizations and audiences they may not have attracted otherwise. It also allows organizations and shoppers to see how many amazing charitable businesses we have in the Omaha area and go support them. There is a saying that goes if everyone gives a little, no one has to give a lot - and that couldn't be more true," said Holly Baker, co-founder.

Local moving company donates boxes to Toys for Tots

October 24, 2012 (Omaha) - The local moving company TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® of Omaha, Neb., recently donated 2,000 boxes to the marines for their annual Toys for Tots program. The location has donated boxes to the Toys for Tots program since 2001.

"It feels wonderful knowing that by donating boxes, they have an organized means to collecting toy donations for underprivileged children as well as freeing up their funds for other aspects of the program," said TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Omaha Franchisee Eileen Marrison.

Toys for Tots began December 1947 with a hand-crafted Raggedy Ann doll. The wife of Marine Reserve Major Bill Hendricks made this doll and asked her husband to deliver the doll to an organization that would present it to a needy child on Christmas day. Major Hendricks could find no such organization and instead, he and his Marine Corps Reserve collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children of the Los Angeles area.

Today, Toys for Tots serves more than 600 local communities, covering 50 states, The District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and The Virgin Islands. On average, 16 million toys are collected and distributed to seven million children each year around Christmas. Marine Sgt. Anthony Coates said in just the two years he's worked on the program, the support TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has given the Toys for Tots program is incredibly generous.

"It means the mission's success because if we didn't have TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we wouldn't have near enough boxes to package and deliver," he said. "They also donated two trucks to deliver boxes to Lincoln and we, by no means, have the capability to do that."

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is the largest franchised moving company in North America. It includes more than 25 locations and more than 1,400 trucks on the road. Each location is independently owned and operated, and sells boxes and packing supplies.

Locations complete both home and business moves, as well as packing and unpacking services. For more information, call the Omaha TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® at (402) 597-6683 or visit www.twomenandatruckomaha.com.

New Contract Will Propel StrategicHealthSolutions, LLC into Large Business Category

$

StrategicHealthSolutions, LLC (Strategic) expects to grow by 50 percent in 2013 and move into the large business category in 2014 because of a five-year medical review contract recently awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

"This is an exciting, yet scary time for Strategic," said Peg Stessman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The transition into a large business will involve a company-wide shift in the way we maintain and achieve work. We will no longer be the big fish in a small pond but a small fish in a large ocean."

As the new Supplemental Medical Review Contractor (SMRC) for CMS, Strategic will be a centralized resource to perform a large volume of Medicare Part A, Part B, and Durable Medical Equipment reimbursement claims nationally. Strategic will focus on lowering improper payments in Medicare Fee-For-Service programs and increasing efficiencies in medical review functions.

Strategic has conducted medical review nationally for the Federal government for six years. Its staff recognizes the SMRC award as proof that the company's business approach works.

"It is clear that CMS is recognizing Strategic's dedication to quality and performance. We are committed to conducting medical review in a fair and consistent manner and demonstrating a clear return on investment," said Brenda Shafer, Project Manager for the SMRC contract.

To staff the contract, Strategic will add 65 employees to its current 130-member workforce during the first year and 100 employees during the second year. Strategic also anticipates hiring additional employees for other work within the company, which will increase the company's workforce to 350 employees.

New hires will staff its offices in Omaha, NE, and Baltimore, MD. Due to the magnitude of the SMRC contract, Strategic will no longer qualify as a small business in 2014 under the North American Industry Classification System.

As a small business government contractor, Strategic currently qualifies for small business set-aside opportunities, which will not be available to Strategic after 2014. To prepare for the shift, Strategic is investing considerable resources into its infrastructure and identifying new opportunities within the large business market.

"As an organization, we will have to work even harder to prove ourselves among our new competition, but I have the upmost faith in my team's ability to rise to the occasion," Stessman said.
