The Strategic Air & Space Museum is Awarded 2012 NASA Summer of Innovation Grant

The Strategic Air & Space Museum is proud to accept a 2012 NASA Summer of Innovation (SoI) Mini-Grant. The museum is one of four organizations in Nebraska to receive this national grant.

The goal of the grant is to support student interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by strengthening the capacity of organizations or schools that inspire and engage female, minority or high poverty middle school students in STEM content.

The NASA SoI grant enables the museum to provide an array of hands on opportunities for students who participate in the museum's Super Science Summer Camps as well as its Overnight programs. Activities range from creating, building and programming robots to squishy, slimy, smelly science activities to high altitude ballooning launches that take student payloads into space.

"We are grateful to NASA for supporting our on-going effort to provide robotics and aerospace related experiences to young people in Nebraska," said Strategic Air & Space Museum Director Dr. Scott Tarry. "Fewer and fewer young people are choosing to study science and math, which means fewer will be prepared for to study fields like engineering in college and pursue careers in technology, medicine, and energy. Our museum, through innovative programs and partnerships like the one we have with the University of Nebraska, is working hard to reverse that trend."

For more information about the Strategic Air & Space Museum, visit www.SASMuseum.com or call 402-944-3100 to schedule a guided tour.

The Strategic Air & Space Museum is located between Lincoln and Omaha off of I-80, exit 426 in Ashland, NE. Museum hours are 10 AM to 5 PM Daily and closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.
